Scientists have named a vitamin that can resist coronavirus

Researchers have named a vitamin that can ease symptoms of COVID-19. One of the forms of vitamin B12, methylcobalamin, has this property. TASS writes about this with reference to the scientific journal IUBMB Life.

Scientists from the Manipal Academy of Higher Education and the Regional Biotechnology Center in Faridabad have found that methylcobalamin can reduce the activity of one of the key proteins that contribute to the reproduction of COVID-19 in the body. The find was unexpected: before that, methylcobalamin was used mainly in the treatment of certain disorders of the nervous system.

This discovery is planned to be used, inter alia, in the prevention of infection among those population groups that are at greatest risk – doctors, people with chronic diseases. But how effective the method is against the virus will become known later, after the completion of clinical trials.
