The researchers found that in the initial stages of hypertension (blood pressure at 130-160 / 80-90 mmHg), it is possible to seriously reduce the need for drug therapy with healthy habits after 16 weeks. This was discovered during an experiment involving 129 men and women aged 40 to 80 years who are overweight or obese. According to experts, all participants in the experiment had symptoms of incipient hypertension at the beginning – absolutely everyone had high blood pressure. At the same time, half of the volunteers regularly took antihypertensive drugs. As part of the trials, people were divided into groups, in each of which they adhered to a certain nutritional format. Participants in the first group began to eat less animal fats and consumed only a minimum of red meat, salt and sugar, while vegetables and fruits and low-fat protein foods, on the contrary, began to consume more. Also, these subjects regularly performed exercise. In the second group, the volunteers adjusted their diet, but did without exercises, and in the third group they lived their usual lifestyle. After 16 weeks, participants in the first group, who introduced healthy habits into their lifestyle, not only lost weight, but also significantly improved blood pressure. At the same time, only 15 percent of the subjects in this group still needed to take medication for hypertension (in the second and third groups did not get even close to the results). Scientists believe that healthy habits not only cure people with the onset of hypertension, but also protect against pre-diabetes – a dangerous, often unrecognizable condition that can smoothly turn into diabetes. .
