In recent days, the second update of the month arrived on the Galaxy S21 series. It does not contain a new patch, so what will happen?
Galaxy S21 update: bug fixes, optimizations
May is actually a quiet month in terms of updates. Apart from a modest security patch, there are currently no major changes planned for most Samsung phones. Still, the South Koreans feel the need to further tinker with the software of the Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra.
After a previous update already installed the May patch on the Galaxy S21, another update appeared last weekend. The new download weighs more than 250 MB, which contains firmware version G99xBXXU7EWE6.
The included changelist is exactly the same as the previous update – including the apps that will be updated. The question is how accurate the list is. On the other hand: we haven’t discovered new functions that quickly, and a new patch is not yet available. What remains is the conclusion that the new update simply fixes some bug or optimizes other behavior. Supplement: As Gismo and Paul confirm below (thanks!) An annoying bug that caused the Galaxy S21 to freeze and reboot has been fixed.
Availability
The new update is now available on the unbranded Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra in the Netherlands and Belgium. As is often the case, the branded models from Vodafone and T-Mobile this second ‘May update’ not yet. The same applies to the Galaxy S21 FE, but it follows its own update path anyway.
Have you installed this update on your S21, and do you discover noticeable changes or innovations? Then let us know below!
(Thanks, Hank!)
