Sergio Miter, Mexican ex-player and also American, was sentenced to 50 years in prison after being found guilty of femicide issued by the Oral Trial Court based in the city of Saltillo, Coahuila.

Miter, former major leaguer with New York Yankees y Florida Marlins, is accused of the death of Inés, a one-year-old and 10-month-old baby, and must also pay 1.3 million pesos as full compensation for the damage.

The accusation was made by Inés’ mother, Liliana, Sergio Mitre’s ex-partner, who together with the ex-player took the baby to the Santillo Children’s Hospital on July 12, 2020 for her care after a hypovolemic shock.

The mother was tried and acquitted of felicidio, after she declared that both she and the baby suffered domestic violence; Sergio Miter beat them because she refused to have an abortion, Liliana said in her testimony.

Sergio Miter entered the Cereso de Saltillo on July 15, 2020 and this Thursday, January 20, 2022, the sentence was handed down.
