SFR has made a major change in all its TV decoders (4K box, mini TV decoder and Decoder Plus). Since April 11, they are no longer delivered with a hard drive. The program recording function has not disappeared, but it is now in the cloud.
First consequence, there is more question of GB storage, but hours. The SFR RED Box and SFR Starter offers include 8 hours of registration. The Power and Premium subscriptions include 100 hours of recording.
NextINpact note that the limit of 8 hours is not trivial, it is related to the scale of the private copy in the cloud (scale which is also submitted Molotov, which now belongs to Altice, the parent company of SFR).
Up to 8 hours of storage in the cloud, SFR pays € 0.105 per month per subscriber. If the operator had proposed 10 GB, for example, the fee would have been € 0.15. For the 100 GB of the most expensive offers, he must pay € 0.417 per month per subscriber. The operator is doing a great job immediately, because with an equivalent hard disk built into the TV decoder, he should have paid 6,30 € (8 GB) or 16 € (100 GB).
Another direct consequence for the subscriber, it becomes impossible to record Canal +, programs prohibited at least 18 years and programs not included in the Guide TV SFR. We can not feint by connecting an external hard drive, it will only be seen as a support for the mediacenter (reading the files it already contains, but no recording on it). And the SD card that is inserted into the decoder? It is only used for live control.
The recording in the cloud does not have only disadvantages. It gives the opportunity to watch his recordings on any device and from anywhere (that's what Molotov does) … except that SFR has not yet set up this service.
The FAQ specifies other points, such as the fact that the records are kept indefinitely (until the termination) and start at the moment the button is pressed (if you start recording after the start of the program, we will miss the beginning).
