"I was freezing for 30 to 40 seconds when I read the note," Michael told The New York Post.

"My first thought was, what did we do to earn that?"

"We gave a good tip, we were more than nice to all the staff."

In a post on Facebook, Michael said that they called the front desk, who offered them a free night.

But he said that they had felt insecure at Art Ovation another night and decided to pay for a room in another hotel.

"We still have no update on how someone could break into our room to leave the message," he wrote.
