PHOENIX — A teenage girl was killed and eight others were injured after a shooting near 10th Avenue and Hatcher early Saturday morning, according to Phoenix police.
According to the authorities, at least 100 people had gathered for a party when, according to the police, a fight broke out between several groups shortly after 1:00 in the morning. This led to a shootout inside a building, located in that area, in the parking lot and on the street.
The 14-year-old girl, who has not yet been identified, died of her gunshot wounds at the hospital. In addition, two women suffered serious injuries, while five men and one teenager suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
According to Phoenix Police Sgt. Phil Krynsky, the party was hyped on social media.
“What I can tell you is that this party was actually promoted on a social media platform, which is why multiple people of different ages and locations attended this gathering, which ultimately resulted in a shooting and death of a teenage girl from 14 years,” Krynsky said.
“It’s a growing trend that we’re seeing,” Sergeant Krynski added. “I am encouraging parents to be very vigilant about their children’s use of social media, because we also received information that some of those who attended were dropped off by family members there,” he added.
