The Messenger Signal (App Store link) is also used by me every day to communicate with family and friends. Signal is available free of charge for iPhones, iPads and Mac from the App Store and currently requires approximately 142 MB of free storage space on the device and iOS/iPadOS/macOS 12.2 or later to set up. A German localization has existed for a long time.
In addition to WhatsApp, Threema and Telegram, Signal is certainly one of the most widely used messengers for iOS and Android in Germany. According to the current Mobile 360 study by AdAlliance, one in four Germans already uses Signal. The app has a special focus on privacy and security, and is now available in version 6.8. With the small update there is improved call information and an optimization for the media view. These are the changes according to the changelog:
- We’ve improved the way information about incoming, outgoing, and missed calls is displayed and synced across linked devices. Now you can directly check all the calls you didn’t answer on time.
- The All Media view has been optimized to allow you to scroll through the past much faster in the future.
- Performance improvements for audio calls in low-bandwidth environments help you have a good conversation even over poor connections.
Version 6.8 of Signal has recently been available for download in the German App Store and can be downloaded by all users to the iPhone and iPad free of charge. On average, the application has a very good 4.6 out of 5 stars from almost 263,000 ratings in the App Store.
