Sitcom Dad Dead at 75

An actor who appeared in many TV roles, becoming best known for his role as TV dad Willie Tanner on the ’80s sitcom “ALF,” has died.

TMZ reports that Max Wright died Wednesday. He was 75.

“Family sources tell TMZ … the actor passed away in his home in Hermosa Beach, CA … just outside Los Angeles,” TMZ reports. “We’re told Max had battled cancer for years. He was diagnosed with lymphoma in 1995, but had been in remission for a long time.”

Along with his role from 1986-1990 on “ALF,” Wright had series regular roles as Karl Shub on “Buffalo Bill” (1983-1984) and Max Denby on “Norm” (1999-2001). He began making TV guest appearances in the ’70s, with roles on “WKRP,” “Taxi,” “Hart to Hart,” “Benson,” “Cheers,” “Quantum Leap,” “Murphy Brown,” “Friends” and many other shows.

“His wife, Linda Ybarrondo, to whom he was married since 1965, died in 2017 from breast cancer. They had 2 children together,” TMZ notes.
