Small children extract metals from the ground so that we can build windmills –

A lot of rare metal is needed for the construction of wind turbines, Arjen Lubach explained yesterday. This comes from China, where whole ‘cancer lakes’, as Lubach calls them, have arisen. It also comes from Congo and Nigeria, among others, where small children do the dirty work like modern slaves.

That metal is also in Europe, but we don’t feel like it at all. We prefer to close our eyes and get the necessary metals for our wind turbines and solar panels from distant countries.
