Seoul The electronics giant Samsung has stopped exporting its products to Russia because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The South Korean company is the market leader in memory chips, smartphones and televisions. “Given the current geopolitical developments, deliveries to Russia have been suspended,” Samsung Electronics said in a statement emailed on Saturday.

The size of the export volume is not clear from the notification. Samsung continues to actively monitor “this complex situation to decide our next steps,” it said. The South Koreans join a string of big tech companies halting shipments to Russia. These include Apple and the chip group Intel.

According to Samsung, it also wants to support humanitarian efforts in the affected region, including aid for refugees. The company is donating six million dollars (about 5.5 million euros) for this purpose. $1 million will be donated to consumer electronics products.
