Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lby) – Bundesliga promoted Greuther Fürth and the second division soccer club SC Paderborn and 1. FC Nürnberg can look forward to special payments for the frequent use of so-called “local players”. The three clubs took the first three places in the category “minutes played by U23 licensed players” (at least three years between the ages of 15 and 21 at a club within the DFB area), as the German Football League announced on Wednesday.
Fürth leads the statistics with 11,553 minutes played and receives a sum of 1.9 million euros, followed by Paderborn (1.7 million euros) and the nine-time German champion from Nuremberg, who receives an additional 1.6 million euros. This funding pot has so far comprised two percent of media revenues in the national area, which corresponds to a total of 26 million euros for the 2020/21 season. From the new season onwards, the factor will be weighted higher. In doing so, not only the working time but also the training should be rewarded.
