Freiburg (AP) – Former Bundesliga player Daniel Schwaab has ended his career as a professional footballer according to a media report. “I have decided to quit and now want to devote myself to new tasks,” said the former defender of SC Freiburg, Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart the “kicker” (Thursday).
“Saying goodbye was not easy for me, I’m not that old yet. And there were definitely interesting offers from abroad. But ultimately I lacked conviction, so the decision overall felt good: I can get out voluntarily and without injuries” , said the 32-year-old, who was under contract with the Dutch first division club PSV Eindhoven until the summer.
Schwaab obviously wants to stay with football. “In the last few months I have been thinking hard about how to proceed,” he said. “I felt that I was drawn to the field. I feel like doing that, that’s my passion.” He wants to work as a trainer in the future “and maybe only in the youth field”. Most recently, he completed an internship at his former club in Freiburg.
