After many reports to CIMER about the posts on Spotify, the world-famous music platform based in Sweden, the Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office intervened.
It stated that the investigation was launched following complaints to CIMER, arguing that the names of the music lists created by users “offended religious values” and “offended state officials”. As a result of the prosecutor’s investigation, it was found that the music lists created by users were approved by Spotify.
Among the digital music platforms, Spotify reached a total of 188 million paid subscribers in the first quarter of 2022. The company’s monthly active users grew to 433 million in the first quarter of 2022. With these tariffs Spotify holds a leadership position in the market.
