Even if Episode 5 of “Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi” fell short of expectations in my opinion (see my review here), the episode did contain a clear highlight: the training match between Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and Padawan Anakin Skywalker, who was built into the episode as a flashback.
The two meet on Coruscant for a training duel in which Anakin Skywalker looks like the clear winner after a while – until his master, Obi-Wan Kenobi, teaches him a lesson. In the 5th episode of the mini-series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” this training fight is divided into several parts. Parts of the fight are always shown and scenes from the present time of the series are juxtaposed. The Idea: To connect to the events on Jabiim, where Obi-Wan Anakin (or now Darth Vader) proves that there are more possibilities than fighting with a lightsaber. And that you shouldn’t focus too much on winning a fight. In any case, here is a video of the complete training fight in one piece:
The flashback should have made many fans happy who have been waiting for Hayden Christensen to return as Anakin Skywalker. Thanks to the duo’s hair (Obi-Wan with longer hair, Anakin with his signature braid) and outfits, the scene looks like it’s set right before the events of “Episode II – Attack of the Clones” – although it has to be said, that at least Hayden Christensen looks older in this scene than the character did at the time of the film. Here, however, Lucasfilm has obviously not set out to make both Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker and Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi look digitally younger – as Luke Skywalker previously did in “The Mandalorian” and in “The Book of Boba Fett” was made. Either way, it’s a great moment – the two actors think so too, by the way.
