SURYA.CO.ID, SURABAYA – The Surabaya City Government (Pemkot) decided to eliminate the Eid prayers in congregations in mosques or in the field. Eid prayers can be done in their respective homes by residents of Surabaya.
This follows a circular from the central government asking regions with the status of the orange zone to pray for Eid al-Fitr at home. Currently, Surabaya is in the orange zone.
“We carry out instructions from the Ministry of Religion. For the red and orange zones, we have to pray Eid at home. How about Surabaya? Prayers for Id at each house,” said the Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi in Surabaya, Saturday (8/5/2021) .
He went on, having made a circulation asking residents to pray Id at home.
“We make sure to be in-line with the central government. We directly distribute to the people,” he said.
Cak Eri explained that the circular was not only meant to prohibit residents from worshiping. However, this is to anticipate the spread of Covid-19 in the City of Heroes.
Moreover, the Covid-19 numbers in Surabaya are still in the Orange zone.
“It’s nothing, this is simply to prevent the transmission of Covid-19 in Surabaya,” he said.
His party has also coordinated with the sub-district and village head for outreach.
“It’s not that we prohibit it, but we are following up on the central government circular,” he continued.
Eid prayers can still be carried out in congregation with family members.
“Id prayers with the family can still be in the house. You can still go to congregation,” he said.
To note, the Indonesian Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) officially issued a circular on Guidelines for Organizing Eid Al-Fitr Prayers 1442H / 2021 in the midst of the Corona virus (Covid-19) Pandemic. SE number 07 of 2021 was signed by the Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas
One of the points is to arrange Eid prayers in areas with the status of the red zone and the orange zone for the corona virus to be carried out in their respective homes.
“Eid al-Fitr prayers 1 Syawal 1442 H / 2021 M in areas experiencing a high level of Covid-19 spread (red zone and orange zone) should be carried out in their respective homes, in line with the fatwas of the Indonesian Ulema Council and other Islamic organizations, “said one of the points in the circular.
