The aim of the initiative is to improve and further expand exercise programs for children and young people. Especially with a view to the corona pandemic and digital alternatives, the clubs have made it their task to make it easier for children and young people to access analogue sports offers.
Up to and including August 2022, “Bundesliga Moves” was supported with funds from the “Aufleben” funding program of the German Children and Youth Foundation, which is financed by the federal government. Follow-up funding from the Deutsche Postcode Lotterie will now enable the program to continue from September 2022.
FC Schalke 04 also took part in the pilot phase and organized a summer camp for 100 children between the ages of five and twelve from the city of Gelsenkirchen during the school holidays. With free food and a full sports program, the children spent five days at Schalke – and were finally able to complete their last week of vacation by receiving the Schalke sports badge.
Network meeting with stakeholders from the city of Gelsenkirchen
In addition, FC Schalke 04 initiated a network meeting with players from the city of Gelsenkirchen in the VELTINS Arena as part of the “Bundesliga Moves” project and brought the various local players to one table on the subject of exercise for children and young people. Sports clubs, schools and institutions in the city exchanged ideas about ways to improve the range of exercise in Gelsenkirchen and the region and, if possible, to create synergies. The exchange of the network is now being consolidated on the initiative of S04 in order to further improve the exchange of network partners as well as the sports and exercise offer in the interests of children and young people.
With the continuation of the project, S04 will continue to expand its commitment and, together with the local partners, try to live up to its social responsibility for the children and young people on site.
