Successful short track coach Otter takes sabbatical: ‘Want something new, something more’

In recent years, Kerstholt has been active as a short track analyst for the NOS. “In that role I was sometimes critical on a technical or tactical level,” he says. “The drivers are already at a very high level, but I think there is still something to gain. A different approach from a new coach can help with that.”

Otter suffered major setbacks

In recent years, Otter had to deal with major setbacks such as the death of Lara van Ruijven in 2020 and the fire accident of Knegt in 2019. Those events have had a lot of impact on the national coach.

“No, the battery is not empty, but it has been four tough years,” the national coach explains. “It might be good to hover over that forest with a helicopter, because I want to be able to make a difference every day.”

“I want something new, I want something more. I don’t want to be blinded by the successes we’ve had,” said Otter.
