Microsoft is planning to launch a 10-inch Surface tablet at less than $ 400 to compete with the 2018 iPad, say our Bloomberg colleagues. More accessible than the expensive Surface Pro, this new range would be equipped with Windows 10 Pro and should land in the second half of 2018.
At a keynote held last March, Apple has created a surprise by unveiling an iPad compatible with Apple Pencil for 369 € . Thanks to this low-priced model, the Cupertino company assumes a little more dominance of the tablet market. In the first quarter of 2018, Apple recorded a 2.14% increase in iPad sales. Faced with this success, Microsoft has not said its last word!
Microsoft is preparing a 10-inch low-cost Surface Tablet
No, the range of Microsoft Surface is not dead ! According to Bloomberg, Microsoft is preparing to expand its range of a low cost model. On the menu of this entry-level tablet: 10-inch screen with curved edges, USB-C and SoC provided by Intel. At the latest news, the tablet will run Windows 10 Pro, like the other models in the range.
Offered at an approximate starting price of less than $ 400, the Low Cost Surface will be available in 3 models: 64 GB, 128 GB, and a 4G compatible version. Like the Apple iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, this tablet will be accompanied by a stylus. At the latest news, this tablet will join the Surface Pro , currently sold at € 899, the Laptop Surface , for sale at 1149 €, and the On Facebook , which costs € 1749, as of the second half of this year.
As a reminder, this is not the first time that Microsoft is trying to find a place in the market of the entry-level tablet. In 2013, the Redmond firm launched Surface RT at 489 €, a tablet running Windows 8 which was mainly due to the lack of applications on the Windows Store. Two years later, the company retried the adventure with the Surface 3 , a tablet Windows 8.1delivered to students, sold for 599 €. With the next Surface to come, can Microsoft manage to nibble market share to iPad?
