De Vries was shot in the Lange Leidsedwarsstraat in the center of Amsterdam on July 6, after his performance in the ‘RTL Boulevard’ program. He was on his way to the parking garage to get his car. The suspects are a 35-year-old Pole from Maurik (Gelderland) and a 21-year-old man from Rotterdam. The Rotterdammer is the suspected shooter. The other suspect was said to have driven the getaway car. Soon after the attack on the A4, near the Leidschendam exit, the two were trapped and arrested.
The council meeting is closed. On this occasion, three judges will consider, among other things, the extension of the pre-trial detention of the suspects. This extension can be extended by a maximum of 90 days. This is followed by a first so-called pro forma hearing, in which the continuation of the pre-trial detention is also examined. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) usually provides an explanation of the progress made in the criminal investigation at such a hearing. A pro forma hearing is open to the public.
The suspects are in restrictions, which means that they are not allowed to have any contact with the outside world except for their lawyer. The restrictions also mean that neither the Public Prosecution Service nor the lawyers of the suspects can or may make any announcements about the case.
The court makes no announcements about the location or time of the hearing.
