At the age of 55, Suzy Mertens was diagnosed with young-onset dementia. Today the woman is only 57 years old, but she lives – due to the lack of another, more suitable facility – among elderly residents in the Witte Meren residential care center in Mol. “When she comes to visit me here, my mother always says: ‘Not you, but I should be here’,” says Suzy. From Monday 6 February, Flanders can meet Suzy during the One programme Restaurant Misverstand’ in which star chef Seppe Nobels and presenter Dieter Coppens run a pop-up restaurant in Antwerp with eight people suffering from young onset dementia.
