While the Métropole de Lyon is renewing its environmental noise prevention plan for the period 2021-2024, a public consultation is being organized from Friday until September 30.
The inhabitants of the Metropolis can thus read this document, which takes stock of the actions undertaken and which lists the future actions, in order to give their opinions on this public health subject.
The Metropolis has thus developed 5 courses of action. This mainly involves reducing noise at its source by working on the main sources of noise and in particular road traffic by promoting, for example, the use of public transport and active modes. It is also a question of planning the territory in such a way as to reduce noise by developing devices reducing the propagation of noise, of absorbing critical situations in particular by supporting the rehabilitation of buildings, promoting access to a quiet area for all. and preserve these sectors, know, inform and educate the public.
“Noise is a public health issue. The World Health Organization alerts governments and citizens to the effects of noise on health such as stress, disturbances in attention and sleep. With the renewal of this Environmental Noise Prevention Plan, we want to take strong action to reduce the exposure of residents to noise pollution. The objective is also to participate fully in the appeasement of our territory through proactive policies in terms of travel, town planning, and the development of quiet areas. So that each Grande Lyonnaise and Grand Lyonnais can benefit from a more peaceful sound environment and thus a better quality of life“, reacted Pierre Athanaze, Deputy Vice-President for the Environment, Animal Protection and Risk Prevention.
