Lawyer Andrei Demidov in a commentary to MBH Media said that the whereabouts of Anton Furgal are unknown.
“It is not known where he is now, the defense is looking for him. It is not known why he was detained. It is known that an application for the participation of a lawyer by appointment was not given to him, so we assume that he was probably not detained on a criminal case,” – he noted.
Sergey Furgal is a former deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation from the LDPR. In 2018, he won the elections for governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, ahead of the candidate from the United Russia party. He was formally charged. Furgal himself categorically rejects them.
According to media reports, Nikolai Mistryukov, a former business partner of Furgal, testified that Furgal was involved in the murder and attempted murder.
After the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation detained the governor of the region, Sergei Furgal, on the morning of July 9, protests began in Khabarovsk.
The Basmanny Court of Moscow on July 10 arrested the detained governor for two months. On July 11, thousands of rallies in support of Furgal began in Khabarovsk. Local residents are convinced of the political motive behind the persecution of the governor, linking this with his popularity and the loss of the rating of United Russia in Khabarovsk and the region, Sibir.Realii writes.
On July 20, Mikhail Degtyarev was appointed acting governor of the Khabarovsk Territory.
