The legend among SUVs is coming in a new generation. She dropped it properly, took on more style and replaced the atmospheric V8 with a supercharged V6
Toyota has set itself two main goals during the development of the new generation Land Cruiser. The first was to establish and further develop the reputation of a reliable and durable car that will not be lost even in difficult terrain. The second goal was to ensure that the car would offer excellent driving characteristics on virtually any type of road and surface.
As in the past, the car relies on the classic concept of the body on the frame, which according to the carmaker is the basic building block of all Land Cruisers. However, with the new generation, the carmaker has opted for a new platform called GA-F, which is based on the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) concept.
The dimensions of the car have not changed compared to the previous 200 series, which also applies to the approach angles. The new generation Land Cruiser 300 thus measures 4999 mm in length, 1980 mm in width and the wheelbase has a value of 2850 mm. The front approach angle is 32 °, while the rear 24 °. The ground clearance is 230 mm.
However, the new chassis should be stronger, offer a lower bar and at the same time offer a weight reduction of up to 200 kilograms. At the same time, Toyota tested the durability of the chassis during demanding tests, to which it also invited racing drivers from the Dakar Rally. And the car was definitely not treated in gloves.
During demanding tests, however, the chassis was also tuned to offer even better suspension and better wheel lift. The carmaker also tested a new multi-terrain monitor system, offering a view from cameras around the car and under the chassis, a new driving mode selector, offering even better traction in the field thanks to new Deep snow and Auto modes, or E-KDSS (Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System ), thanks to which the new generation LC300 should be perfectly manageable on the road as well.
Let’s not expect any big surprises in the area of power units. As we have already read from the leaked materials, the new Land Cruiser will replace the atmospheric V8 with a supercharged V6. But with higher performance. The 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 petrol offers 305 kW (415 hp) and 650 Nm of torque. The diesel 3.3-liter V6 turbodiesel then offers 227 kW (309 hp) and 770 Nm of torque.
Thanks to the weight reduction and the connection of both engines with a ten-speed automatic transmission, the carmaker managed to reduce average CO emissions2 up to 10% compared to the previous generation Land Cruiser 200. In combination with petrol engine, the LC300 can sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.7 seconds, which is an impressive time for a similarly large SUV.
The exterior of the new Land Cruiser is particularly impressive with the redesigned bow with a new radiator grille, a new bumper and new headlights, the daytime running lights of which are elegantly connected to the slats in the radiator grille. Visually, the car looks even more dominant. Take the fairings from the side, which are newly square, or the modified rear side glass. For those interested in an even more distinctive look, a completely new version of GR-Sport is prepared, which will impress with dark lacquered components.
Overall, however, the shapes of the Land Cruiser Generation 300 do not differ much from their predecessor, which is one very good reason: the designers are developing the Land Cruiser models with a view to possible use in the field. The bumpers are therefore designed so as not to restrict the approach angles, while the headlights are positioned so as not to break them.
The cabin of the Lan Cruiser 300 has undergone a significant modernization, the aim of which was to make the stay easier and more pleasant for the crew. Although the instrument panel has retained two large analog indicators, there is also a large on-board computer screen in the middle. The center console has been completely redesigned, fitted with new selectors and received a new infotainment screen, which can have a diagonal of 9 “or 12.3”.
Despite the new screens, however, the Land Cruiser still retains the classic robust buttons and rotary selectors, thanks to which everything can be operated easily blindly or when driving off-road. The equipment also includes support for Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging, head-up display, electronically adjustable steering wheel, air ionizer or JBL audio system. Land Cruiser also received the latest generation of the Toyota Safety Sense system with adaptive cruise control or lane-keeping system.
The new generation of the Land Cruiser 300 has so far been introduced only for selected markets, such as the Middle East, Russia, etc. The introduction of the new model in Europe has not yet been discussed, but the 200 generation has not been officially imported here, so we do not expect anything to change. . Customers can choose either a smaller Land Cruiser 150 or an import offered by some Toyota dealers. It is also interesting that the new car has not yet been introduced in the USA, where it will probably be replaced by its twin under the name Lexus LX.
