KONTAN.CO.ID – Jakarta. The corona virus pandemic continues to spread to various parts of the world. The longer the corona virus spreads, the more Covid-19 symptoms will increase.
For more than 9 months since it was first reported in Wuhan, China at the end of December 2019, more than 38 million people worldwide have been infected. More than one million other people died. It is known, people infected with Covid-19 generally experience symptoms of Covid-19 such as dry cough, fever of more than 37.3 degrees Celsius, and fatigue.
While in certain cases, there are also unusual symptoms of Covid-19. These include conjunctivitis (red eyes), loss of taste or smell or anosmia, neurological symptoms and a rash on the hands or feet. Here’s the explanation:
1. Symptoms of Covid-19 include the appearance of a rash
Quoting the news from Kompas.com, (2/5/2020), a new symptom appeared in Covid-19 patients, namely a reaction that causes a rash on the skin, for example on the toes. The reaction to this rash appears as a patient who has dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), a rash such as measles and pernio.
According to USA Today, the symptoms of Covid-19 were first noted in March by an Italian dermatologist. The symptoms of Covid-19 occur more in children and young adults and are characterized by blue or purple lesions that appear on the toes.

Meanwhile, the Chair of Dermatology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, Dr. Vesna Petronic-Rosic, revealed that there is a link between skin rashes and corona virus infection. He explained, almost up to 20 percent of individuals who get the infection will experience some types of skin disease, skin manifestations.
Regarding the appearance of the rash on the “Covid-19 toes”, Vesna said, the appearance of the rash, which looks like frostbite on the feet with a little, maybe pink, watery or purple spots. It is known that patients with these skin symptoms do not appear to have any other typical symptoms associated with the coronavirus, including shortness of breath, cough and fever.
2. Symptoms of Covid-19 in the form of Anosmia
In addition, another uncommon symptom of Covid-19 infection is anosmia or loss of smell (nose). Reporting from Kompas.com, (28/9/2020), the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery reported that anectodal evidence collected from sites around the world shows that anosmia and dysgeusia (loss of taste) are significant symptoms of Covid- 19.
In certain cases, anosmia occurs in Covid-19 positive patients with no symptoms. In Italy, as many as 64 percent of the 202 Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms also experienced anosmia. Another report from The Royal College of Surgeons of England that most Covid-19 patients from South Korea, China, Germany, and Italy had decreased or lost their sense of smell.

3. Symptoms of Covid-19 are neurological
Furthermore, new symptoms from positive patients with Covid-19 are in the spotlight, namely neurological symptoms. Reporting from Kompas.com, (8/10/2020), neurological symptoms appear starting from mild symptoms, such as difficulty focusing or attention, short-term memory, concentration, to difficulty undergoing multitasking.
The findings were published in the journal Annals of Clinical and Translational Neurology. In addition, research has also revealed that patients can continue to experience these symptoms after becoming white from Covid-19.
Researchers at Northwestern Medicine observed 82 percent of the first 502 patients at 10 hospitals had problems that originated in the nervous system. Then, another report that one-third of patients had some kind of serious neurological problem, for example encephalopathy or brain function changes.
