“The waiver of tests and the premature abolition of the mask requirement as well as the excessive reduction of quarantine measures increases the risk that the school will become a black box, which no longer allows a control of infections,” said the president of the teachers’ association, Heinz-Peter Meidinger, the editorial network Germany (RND / Friday). The GEW chairman Maike Finnern emphasized in the RND that a mask requirement remains “useful as part of the package of measures depending on the infection occurrence”.

RKI expects an increase in the number of infections

Several countries had announced or already implemented loosening of the mask requirement in schools. On Friday, there will also be no further restrictions in several federal states. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) expects the number of infections to rise again in autumn and winter. The reasons given were in particular a “still large number” of unvaccinated people and the increase in indoor contact.

From the point of view of the head of the teachers’ association, Meidinger, the schools are better prepared for the colder season than they were a year ago. Meidinger is also not assuming complete or partial school closings with the associated distance and change of lessons “as things stand”. The incidences in children and adolescents are indeed quite high. Due to the general vaccination recommendation of the Standing Vaccination Commission, the vaccination rate for schoolchildren over the age of twelve is also growing rapidly.

Mask requirement in schools should be dropped in Bavaria

In Bavaria, the compulsory teaching should be dropped from next week. Such a step is also being considered in Baden-Württemberg. In Berlin schools, the mask requirement up to and including sixth grade will be lifted from Monday. This is already the case in Brandenburg. North Rhine-Westphalia wants to decide in the next week how it will continue with the topic after the autumn break. Federal Family Minister Christine Lambrecht welcomed this relaxation.

In the Saarland, as of this Friday, it is no longer necessary to wear a mask in schools. In the country, dancing in clubs will also be possible again from Friday. According to a new Corona regulation, practically all restrictions for vaccinated, convalescent and tested people in the state are no longer applicable. You no longer need to wear a mask, even indoors, if the 3G rule is applied. The minimum distance is only a recommendation.

Also in clubs and discos in Bavaria it is allowed to celebrate again from this weekend after almost one and a half years of corona-related compulsory break, without distance or mask. A stricter 3G rule then applies to visitors and employees with customer contact: Only those who have been vaccinated and recovered are admitted, or you have to show a negative PCR test. A rapid antigen test or a self-test are not sufficient.

No mask requirement outdoors in NRW

In North Rhine-Westphalia there is no longer a requirement to wear a mask outdoors from Friday. In football stadiums, at concerts and other major events, more audiences are allowed again. However, standing room may only be half occupied and only if a medical protective mask is worn in the corridors.

SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach warned: “30 percent of the under-60s are still not vaccinated. We underestimate this enormous number. It is too high to prevent an increase in the number of infections, ”Lauterbach told the“ Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger ”(Friday). “The virus will continue to spread in the cold season when life moves back into closed rooms.”

Extension of the 3G rule is called for

The chairwoman of the German medical officers calls for an expansion of the 3G rule and information requirements in the professional world with a view to autumn. “3G is necessary across the board for all areas with customer contact, including the world of work – either as an obligation to provide information for employees or as a right to information for employers,” said the chairwoman of the Federal Association of Doctors in the Public Health Service, Ute Teichert, the newspapers of the Funke media group.

She explained that it does not help much if, for example, restaurant guests have to prove a vaccination, recovery or a negative test, “but the employer is not allowed to ask his restaurant staff about it”. This could lead to “infected service staff going from guest to guest and passing on the pathogen. The system is not right here. “
