Dell has unveiled a new solution for the outdoor use of IT technicians. The technology case is a combination of a case, a ruggedized tablet, a keyboard and various accessories in a complete package. Even a printer is housed in it.
The handling should be particularly convenient because the case was designed so that the entire system only needs to be unfolded. Integrated in the case is a cable for the power supply, which can be pulled out thanks to the cable roll. The setup time is Dell with 30 seconds. The same applies to disarmament.
The computing base is an already available Latitude 7212 Rugged Extreme Tablet. It is a shockproof and therefore rather bulky and heavy 12 inch device. As a special feature, Dell has a fairly bright display and hot-swappable batteries. The tablet is in the case in a kind of docking device and is easily removable. This docking device also takes on the task of a display hinge, so that the case can also be classified as a very large notebook.
There are few cables in the device because the removable keyboard and mouse work wirelessly. The direct thermal printer, on the other hand, is not intended for spontaneous collection.
Overall, the suitcase notebook weighs at least 7.5 kilograms in its basic configuration. Some options may increase the weight of the device. Companies have the option of using the suitcase produced by Bormann
to apply their own design.
For the price, Dell makes no statements. However, only the tablet currently has a list price of over 2,000 euros. In the project business, however, the prices are negotiable anyway.
