tensions at La Guillotière on the sidelines of the arrival of Jordan Bardella

The president of the RN took part in a television program, the shooting of which was denounced and qualified as a “political maneuver” by several LaREM deputies from the Rhône and Lyon. The city of Lyon deplores the “torubles to public order” caused by this trip.

La Guillotière continues to crystallize tensions. The Lyon district was completely cordoned off this Wednesday morning, around Place Gabriel-Peri, by the police, due to the holding of a television program in the presence of Jordan Bardella, president of the National Gathering.

Residents and anti-fascist activists gathered to protest. Several mortar attacks were recorded and one person was arrested. Traffic on tram line 1 was also interrupted for a long time before resuming at midday.

La Guillotière “is not a lawless area”

This television show did not only react to the inhabitants of the district but also to politicians. The town hall of Lyon regretted that the program hosted by Jean-Marc Morandini had “caused public order disturbances, requiring the mobilization of the police”. “The Guillotière district deserves better than that. If it is experiencing public tranquility issues, it is not a ‘lawless zone’ as some have been led to believe,” the city continued in a statement.

Three LaREM deputies from Rhône and Lyon, for their part, denounced “a political maneuver” and “a grotesque staging”.

“Even if this district is encountering great difficulties, the spectacle given this morning is not that of everyday life”, says Lyon’s elected official Thomas Rudigoz on Twitter.

In their press release, elected officials say that the program in which Jordan Bardella participated was “perceived by many as a provocation” and that “la Guillotière and its inhabitants deserve better”.

This district, located in the 7th and 3rd arrondissements of Lyon, is regularly singled out for questions of insecurity. Crime, violence, thefts … Residents and traders are increasingly speaking out to denounce the situation and many police operations are regularly carried out in the area of Place Gabriel-Péri.
