Tesla Cybertruck’s steering wheel is still a mystery

Tesla will sooner or later unveil the final version of the Cybertruck, which should not be very different from the disruptive prototype presented in 2019. One element remains a mystery, however: the steering wheel, which has appeared in different forms in recent months.

In 2019, Tesla unveiled the Cybertruckits 100% electric pickup with a futuristic design, on the occasion ofa presentation that made a lot of talk. Since then, the vehicle has known only delays and, as of May 2023, it is still not in production (it should be this year). Therefore, there are still many questions surrounding this car that has experienced a resounding craze. Among them is the question of the steering wheel, an essential element for such a product.

As Teslarati reports in an article published on May 29the Cybertruck recently appeared in a promotional video with a classic steering wheel (read: circular). However, the very first version of the 100% electric pickup was equipped with a much bolder steering wheel: the famous Yoke available on the Model S and the Model X. Moreover, on other shots, we can see a third option: a mix between the two.

Which steering wheel for the Tesla Cybertruck?

Everything suggests that Tesla engineers are working on three different steering wheels for the Cybertruck: a classic shape found throughout the range (from Model 3 to Model X), the Yoke which has been debated since its induction and a redesigned version of the Yoke.

The third option might be the most interesting, since it would combine the best of both worlds. In this case: a steering wheel that takes the rectangular shape of the Yoke, but adds a flat semi-circle on the upper part. Aesthetically, it is reminiscent of the steering wheel of Peugeot cars, while offering the technological advances of the Yoke (touch surfaces, removal of stalks). The shape would in any case be much more universal, and proof that Tesla is ready to compromise in the face of mixed returns on the Yoke.

The other most credible possibility would be to offer the same as for the Model S and the Model X. Tesla’s two high-end vehicles were first launched as production with the Yoke, before the American manufacturer left the choice of a classic steering wheel. Today, the Yoke has become a paid option at 250 €a sign that he did not win the vote despite Tesla’s desire to break the codes.

These different steering wheels show in any case that Tesla is considering various equipment for the Cybertruck, a crucial vehicle for the company. In North America, the pickup segment is the largest in the automotive market and competition is already strong.
