Last week, the search for Steven Guajardo Servantes, 40, who had escaped from a Texas jail and was captured over the weekend trying to cross into Mexico, was revealed.

According to a press release from the United States Customs and Border Protection Office and the Bee County Sheriff’s Office, they indicated Servantes’ arrest on Friday, January 21.

The man managed to escape while littering with an escort, according to the Bee County Sheriff’s Office.

Days later, officers at the Progreso International Bridge found him.

Servantes was undergoing inspection when officers detected his resemblance to a fugitive and he was referred for a second inspection.

Through a fingerprint check they confirmed the man was Servantes.

“This is an important arrest as it underscores the public safety impact of our border security mission,” Progreso Port Director Walter Weaver said in a statement. “An arrest of this magnitude illustrates the vital role CBP plays in protecting our country and our communities.”

The man was turned over to US Marshal’s custody.
