The covid-19 pandemic and the health measures that affect cultural events have forced a change in the programming of the fortieth edition of the Torroella de Montgrí Festival. The organization has decided not to give up its celebration despite the health crisis and extend the pageant until next summer. Specifically, it will begin on July 23, 2020 and end at the end of August 2021. Among other activities, it has scheduled a cycle of streaming conferences‘, works on a documentary about the history of the festival that will be broadcast by TV3 and La 2 and is studying to do a concert without an audience at the end of July in the Espai Ter auditorium with the collaboration of the CCMA and RTVE, which would broadcast it on radio and television.
The kick-off of the 40th Torroella de Montgrí Festival will be on July 23rd, coinciding with the same day that in 1981 the first concert of the first edition of the Festival was held. It will be the start of a whole year of events that must culminate in the summer of 2021 with the rescheduling of some of the concerts scheduled for this summer. In fact, according to a statement from the festival, the events will be “adapted to the health guidelines dictated by the authorities at all times, in order to ensure the health safety conditions of artists, the public – in case they can be reached to hold concerts with the public this summer – and the whole team that makes the Festival possible “. In fact, the details of the events planned for this summer will be made public soon.
The director of the Empordà festival, Montse Faura, has assured that they will work with “the usual enthusiasm”, to “adapt the programming to the new circumstances imposed and to keep alive the spirit of the Festival of Torroella de Montgrí that this year, despite the difficulties imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, it wants to celebrate its 40th anniversary “.
