All northbound lanes on Oakland's Interstate Highway 880 are closed following an early Friday morning crash that caused steel girders to fall from a transfer structure.
A 28-year-old Hayward woman reportedly drove at a high speed of about 80 to 100 miles per hour and, as she pulled off the road, climbed the Jersey barriers and crashed, according to California, on a support bridge on 23rd Avenue. Overpass highway police.
The impact dropped at least two jets on the highway, said the CHP Oakland officer, Matthew Hamer.
According to Hamer, the woman was taken to a local hospital with no life-threatening injuries. She was then arrested on suspicion of DUI.
All four lanes between Main Street and 23rd Avenue are closed and there is no estimated time when the lanes will reopen.
Editor's note: CHP estimated the lanes were open at around 4:00 pm.
