Unsurprisingly but necessarily worrisome for the meat sector, the Arcadie Sud-Ouest group, based in Rodez (Aveyron), declared that it had stopped paying. Tuesday, June 30, the Commercial Court of Montpellier (Hérault) placed the company in receivership. The information from “La Dépêche du Midi” was confirmed on Wednesday July 1 in “Sud Ouest” by a representative of the group.

“The situation of the Arcadie Sud-Ouest Group, already weakened by the drop in meat consumption in France, suddenly deteriorated under the impact of the Covid-19 crisis with the closure of restaurants and the end of the out-of-home catering. A significant part of turnover [404 millions d’euros en 2019] could not be carried out over a decisive period for the meat trade and in particular the Easter celebrations “, explains the company. The marketing of by-products also suffers: the automobile sector is no longer a taker of leathers. add strategic errors (an industrial tool ill-suited to Sainte-Geneviève-sur-Argence, in Aveyron).
Towards a recovery
The group is actively working on a disposal plan. “An investment bank was mandated, in April, to support the group in the search for a new industrial partner. Important players in the sector are interested in the file and may soon make an offer.” According to other sources, the name of the giant Bigard is circulating. It would not be the only one. French but also foreign agro-food groups have expressed their interest.
Owned by breeders’ cooperatives (including Lur Berri), Arcadie Sud-Ouest owns several slaughterhouses and butchers in Occitanie and Nouvelle-Aquitaine. 1,006 employees (including 933 on permanent contracts) work on its various sites. The group is notably present in Anglet (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), Mont-de-Marsan (Landes) and Thiviers (Dordogne). At the beginning of April, Arcadie had quickly disengaged from the Ribérac slaughterhouse (Dordogne).
During the procedure, the activity continues. Wages are paid. Arcadie Sud-Ouest has set itself the goal of reaching a solution by the end of the summer. It would even be hoped for a presentation of the disposal plan within a month.
