The army intends to impose the vaccine on its soldiers

A ministry arbitration committee with the participation of staff representatives decided the day before to add the vaccine against Covid-19 to the list of compulsory vaccines for all troops, said a spokesperson for the ministry, specifying that its official application “is expected soon”.

The outgoing German Minister of Defense, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, “spoke strongly in favor of the obligation”, added the spokesperson.

The Bundeswehr would thus become the first institution in Germany to take such a step. German leaders last week paved the way for a requirement for healthcare workers and nursing homes.

Doctors’ associations have also spoken out in favor of an obligation for the entire population, at a time when the incidence rate of new infections over seven days is close to the threshold of 400 on Tuesday, a record for the 16th day. in a row.

But the health situation is such that a debate on compulsory vaccination, categorically rejected so far by Angela Merkel’s government, is raging.

Angela Merkel’s CDU, who will leave power in the coming weeks, asked the future coalition of three parties that will succeed her to take a position on this subject of a possible vaccine obligation.
