THE BALL – Águias comfortably win the derby again (Women’s Football)

Benfica beat Sporting by 4-1 on Wednesday night, in the first leg of the semi-finals of the 2022/23 League Cup for women’s football, played at Benfica Campus, in Seixal.

The Canadian Cloé Lacasse, at 16′ and 42′, scored twice for the reds, coached by Filipa Patão, in the first half, with her compatriot – but player of the lionesses – Chandra Davidson mitigating for Sporting, in the restart, pointing the 2 -1 at 55′.

Jéssica Silva, on the 69th minute, in a beautiful initiative on the right, scored the 3-1 on the 69th minute and already at a time when the lionesses, coached by Mariana Cabral, were outnumbered, due to the expulsion of Fátima Dutra (he saw two ‘yellows’ in the space of two minutes, at 71′ and 73′), the eagles increased to 4-1 by Kika Nazareth, at 77′.

Benfica, who had won the derby on Saturday, but at Luz and for the Portuguese Cup by a fat 5-0, thus take three goals ahead for the two-legged meeting of the second leg of the League Cup semi-finals, to be played on February 8 at the Cristiano Ronaldo Academy, in Alcochete.

It is more of a demonstration of the superiority of the two-time national champions, authoritative in the game from the beginning, with Sporting taking half an hour to rebalance operations, but giving good account of itself until it breaks with the 3-1, pointed out by Jéssica Silva. Benfica are three goals ahead for the second leg of the semi-finals, to be played on February 8, at the Cristiano Ronaldo Academy, in Alcochete.
