THE BALL – Died Henrique Vieira (Basketball)

Coach Henrique Vieira died this Monday, aged 65, according to the Portuguese Basketball Federation (FPB).

“The FPB is mourning the death of Henrique Vieira, a former player and coach with a highly prestigious career, who passed away at the age of 65 this Monday,” wrote the organization.

Henrique Vieira played for Real Sociedade and Sporting de Lourenço Marques, Académica de Coimbra, Ginásio Figueirense, Atlético CP and Benfica.

He was also coach of Atlético, Estoril-Praia, UD Oliveirense (one Portuguese Cup and one Super Cup), Ovarense (one National Championship), Benfica (two National Championships, two Super Cups and one Hugo dos Santos Cup) and Sport Algés and Dafundo.

The FPB also revealed that a minute of silence will be observed in Odivelas, this Monday (7 pm), before Portugal – Montenegro, the senior men’s national team qualifying match for the 2023 World Cup.
