The demolition in Las Piedras culminates: “The house is already on the ground, it does not represent a danger”

The authorities culminated on Sunday night, the demolition of the residence of the Mansiones de los Artesanos urbanization, in Las Piedras, in which an explosion occurred on the morning of last Friday, they confirmed to The new day the director of the Municipal Emergency Management Office (OMME), Xavier Muñoz.

The blast was of such magnitude that houses up to two blocks away were damaged by the blast.

The demolition works were attended by the Firefighter, Emergency Management and Disaster Administration offices and the Police; the Agency for Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF); the municipalities of Juncos, Gurabo and Humacao; LUMA Energy and the Aqueduct and Sewer Authority, among others.

Woman continues in care condition

The 57-year-old woman, who suffered burns after the explosion of her residence, continues in a condition of care, the director of Press and Communications of the Puerto Rico Medical Services Administration (ASEM) reported this afternoon. Jesus Velez Rodado.

“The patient, a 57-year-old female, of English nationality and who suffered serious burns at home when the gas tank of the washing machine exploded, is being cared for in the Stabilizing Unit of the Trauma Hospital of the Medical Center of Puerto Rico”added Vélez Rosado.

Previously, Vélez Rosado reported that the event could have started when, “Apparently, the gas (propane) tank in the washing machine exploded, causing second degree burns to Goldthorpe.”
