The economist Piedad Urdinola will be the new director of the Dane of the Petro government

The economist from the University of the Andes Piedad Urdinola Contreras will be the new director of the National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane) of the Government of Gustavo Petro.

According to information from Blu Radio, Urdinola will replace John Daniel Oviedowho headed the entity during the administration of Iván Duque and who refused to continue in office despite President Petro’s request.

Urdinola is an expert in demography and has a Ph.D. in this field from the University of California, Berkeley. She was co-director of the Latin American Human Mortality Database and has been interested in demographic issues in the region.

Her research focuses on adolescent fertility, fiscal impacts of aging, conflict demographics, and gender issues.

She has received several competitive research grants and has been awarded as Tinker Visiting Scholar at Stanford University and Santo Domingo Visiting Scholar at Harvard University.

The economist comes from working for several years as an associate professor in the Statistics Department of the National University of Colombia.
