the EFS calls for constant mobilization!

“Donating blood is good, donating regularly is essential!” This is the slogan of the French Blood Establishment in its last appeal for donations campaign, this month of May. The EFS recalls at the same time that, for the moment, no synthetic drug is able to replace human blood.

Relentless mobilization is therefore necessary according to the organization. Several collection points will thus be set up in the Vosges this month:

  • Saint-Die-des-Vosges: Monday May 23 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Espace François Mitterrand, rue du 11 Novembre
  • Raon-l’Etape: Friday 27 May from 4 p.m. to 7.30 p.m., Salle des fêtes Beauregard, Place des Martyres de la Résistance
  • Epinal: Monday 30 May from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Espace Cours, avenue Gambetta

Some numbers

  • Each day, 10,000 blood donations are needed to meet the needs of patients.
  • 1 million people are treated each year through blood donations.
  • Each patient receives an average of 5 labile blood products.
  • Labile blood products from blood donations have a limited life:

– Pads: 7 days
– Red blood cells: 42 days
– Plasma: 365 days

These blood donations will have various uses:

– At the time of blood transfusions, in particular in the event of haemorrhage during childbirth, during a surgical operation or following an accident;

– For patients suffering from cancers or chronic pathologies such as leukemia or sickle cell disease for example;

– Pour manufacture plasma-derived drugs and which will make it possible to treat severe burns or patients with autoimmune diseases, among others.
