Colombia’s three Christian senators Justa Libres, one of President Duque’s coalition parties, will vote blank for the election of Arturo Char in the Presidency of the Senate.
“Our party has made the decision to vote blank for the Senate Presidency and for the second vice presidency”, which corresponds to the opposition, according to the leader of the party, Senator Jhon Milton Rodríguez.
The reason, as we learned, is the judicial noise around the Char house, especially that the fugitive Aída Merlano specifically said that Arturo Char had helped her escape from prison.
“We believe that given the attention that must be devoted to his defense, it will be difficult for him to attend to the responsibility implied by the presidency of the Senate,” Rodríguez told us.
The decision is curious because the rest of the duchy coalition, led by the Democratic Center and the Conservatives, have already announced their support for Char for this afternoon.
However, those three votes on paper would not be necessary for Char since he has the support of other benches.
