The ex-vinotinto Emilio Campos dies | football 123

Emilio Campos, former left back of Venezuela in the 1980s, and former player of ULA FC and Estudiantes de Mérida, died this Sunday, September 18, in the city of Acarigua, Portuguesa State, at the age of 68.

Campos was born in Oviedo, Spain, on August 18, 1954, and arrived in Venezuela at the age of 8. In Venezuela, Emilio made a career in two Merida teams: ULA and Estudiantes. With ULA he debuted as a professional, and became champion in 1983, playing in the Copa Libertadores the following year. With Estudiantes de Mérida he played for three years and was also champion, for which he played in the Copa Libertadores in 1987.

With the national team, Campos was a regular during the 1980s, playing in Pre-World Cups, Copa América, Olympic Qualifiers and the 1981 Moscow Olympics. In addition, he provided a memorable assist for Herbert Márquez’s goal against Argentina in 1985.
