SOKOTO – Deborah Samuel, a non-Muslim student in Nigeria, was stoned to death by a campus mob and her body burned after being accused of insulting Nabi Muhammad SAW . The accusations refer to his comments on social media.

The mass rage occurred last Thursday. Police in the northwestern Nigerian city of Sokoto said dozens of Muslim students from the Shehu Shagari College of Education [Sekolah Tinggi Pendidikan Shehu Shagari] went on a rampage after Deborah Samuel, who is also a student at the same campus, made statements on social media that they deemed insulting to the Prophet Muhammad.

“The students forcibly removed the victim from the security room where she was hidden by campus authorities, killed her and set the building on fire,” Sanusi Abubakar said, a Sokoto police spokesman said in a statement.

He said the students “united with the criminals” and blocked a highway outside the campus before a police team dispersed them.

Abubakar said two suspects had been arrested.
