The first phase of the € 15 million City Airport project has been completed

The first phase of a £ 15 million investment at George Best Belfast City Airport has been completed.

The refurbished Duty Free and WH Smith Airside units have created room for 30% more space.

Joanne Deighan, commercial manager at Belfast City Airport, said that passengers will see a "big improvement" this season: "In the summer months, we expect about 10,000 passengers to pass through the terminal every day, so it's fantastic to see these customers World class travel experience that will truly enhance the customer journey. "

Later in the summer, security upgrades will be completed and towards the end of the year, the investment will go towards improved food and beverage offerings.

The new space in the airport's shopping area has allowed both retailers to expand their offering with Duty Free and is now offering for the first time cosmetic products such as Bare Minerals, Elemis and Smashbox products.

In the meantime, the new WH Smith Store offers a wider selection of food and beverages with a focus on dining, travel accessories, toiletries, magazines and books.

The extra space has also made it possible to increase its mini-toiletries under 100ml and beauty products from Maybelline and Rimmel have been introduced.

Upon completion of the investment, the Departure Lounge will provide additional seating and charging stations as well as improved sanitary facilities.

Ms. Deighan added, "The walk-through design within World Duty Free allows our passengers to see the available brands on their way through the departure lounge."
