The Government increases spending on housing for social rental and aid to young people

The item allocated to Access to Housing and Promotion of Building will rise next year to 3,472 million euros5.4% more than in 2022, as stated in the project of the General State Budgets for 2023, as reported this Thursday by the Minister of Finance and Public Function, Maria Jesus Montero The amount will go to the construction of social rental housingto the energy efficiency of homes or the emancipation of young people, as Montero explained during his presentation at a press conference in the Congress of Deputies.

The allocation for the Housing policy for 2023 stands at 992 million euros, to which 2,480 million euros from the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism (MRR) are added. Subsidies for Housing Plans will receive €359 million14 million more than in 2022. On the other hand, 1,600 million euros will be allocated for the construction of social rental housing in energy efficient buildings.

In addition, the PGE 2023 also contemplate an item of 200 million euros for the youth rental bonus. This aid was created in 2022 and involves the payment of a monthly amount of 250 euros for two yearss, to young people between 18 and 35 years old, who prove work income and who have an annual income of less than three times the Iprem (Public Indicator of Income for Multiple Effects).

“It intends to favor the emancipation of our young people. Housing continues to be a red line”, the minister acknowledged. Montero has urged the autonomous communities to make these funds “available to the young population as soon as possible” because “asymmetries” are observed. In 2023, the Public Business Land Entity (Sepes) will have 260 million euros for the actions of the Plan for affordable rental and promote the promotion of housing on publicly owned land.
