The Heat couldn’t get back at the Celtics in the teams’ first meeting since the Eastern finals.

Miami — Jayson Tatum scored 29 points, Jaylen Brown added 28 and the Boston Celtics beat the Miami Heat 111-104 on Friday in a repeat of the last Eastern Conference finals.

The Celtics, whose most recent trip to Miami was to win Game 7 of that series, this time outscored the Heat 42-24 from 3-point range. and improved to 2-0 under interim coach Joe Mazzulla.

Tyler Herro scored 25 points for Miami, which also had contributions of 19 points from Bam Adebayo, 18 from Jimmy Butler and 17 from Kyle Lowry.

The Heat cut a 14-point deficit to five late in the game. Back-to-back baskets by Tatum from the paint helped Boston get ahead.

“We have a great team, but we still try to understand each other”, Tatum said. “I love playing against the Heat. We have some history here in the last couple of years. They put pressure on us and make us a better team. They have fire, great players and a great coach”.

It’s Miami’s first start going 0-2 since 2007-08.
