Shocking news appeared on the Facebook page of the Hungarian Bandy Association on Friday night:

“The U21 Hungarian team was excluded from the World Cup. The jury of the event, in consultation with the Hungarian team management, excluded the Hungarian U21 team, which was a guest at the U19 World Championship, from the competitions with immediate effect. According to the suspicion, a player consumed drugs. The Hungarian Bandy Association condemns behavior unworthy of an athlete, accepts the jury’s decision and supports it in the spirit of zero tolerance. Due to the ongoing process, we cannot share any further information until the investigation is complete.”

The statement of the Swedish Bandy Association says: It is suspected that one or more members of the Hungarian national team have consumed narcotics.

Pär Gustafsson, the secretary general of the Swedish Bandy Association and the tournament director of the youth World Cup, informed that the incident was also reported to the police.

As reported by Origo, participation in the World Cup would have been a historic opportunity and performance for the Hungarian U21 national team, as our team could participate in the junior world championship of this sport for the first time. The Hungarian national team would have played the Finns, Swedes and Norwegians, but after the match against the Finns – in which they lost 17-0 – the tournament ended ingloriously for them.

The Hungarian youth national team went to the World Championship in Sweden with two goalkeepers and fourteen outfield players.
