The iPhone 15 could get a main camera with a new sensor from Sony; What upgrades are we expecting?

I’ve been writing about the iPhone 15 lately, with many rumors hitting the web recently. If we can’t be sure about the design until the debut, we know for sure that Apple will try to offer upgrades at the camera level. It seems that it would be a new photo sensor produced by Sony which will arrive on the new smartphone lineup. We have details in the lines below.

The information comes via the Nikkei publication. It seems that Apple will use one of the latest photo sensors produced by Sony for the iPhone 15 series of smartphones. This sensor would double the saturation signal in the case of each pixel compared to standard sensors. This means that the sensor will be able to capture more light, the exposure of the photos will be adjusted better.

Sony is rumored to use a semiconductor architecture that allows photodiodes and transistors to be placed on separate layers. Thus, more photodiodes will allow the sensor to capture more light and inevitably, sharper captures. However, Apple tends to offer different hardware for Pro and non-Pro variants. Thus, it is possible that only the models iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max to come with this improved photo sensor.

As a reminder, there are rumors on the web that the iPhone 15 will bring a major design change, with rounded edges. Also, the new models could bring USB-C port for power and data transfer, according to the new EU regulations. Inside, we would receive cipsters Apple A17 Bionic developed on a 3nm lithography process.

It is rumored on the web that Apple is also working on a periscopic camera for better optical zoom, up to 10X.
