The Kremlin does not plan to arrange a “debriefing” for the authorities of the regions in which the smallest turnout was recorded during the vote on amendments to the Constitution. This was announced to reporters by the presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, answering the corresponding question.
“It’s out of the question. There was no ordered attendance or custom result and never was. On the contrary, the main criterion that must be observed was the extreme purity and transparency of the vote, ”said Peskov, a RBC correspondent reports.
The Kremlin considered the voting results “triumphant”
According to the Central Election Commission, the average voter turnout in Russia was 67.97%. Moreover, in individual regions this indicator varies greatly: from 95% in Chechnya and 92% in Tuva to 44% in Kamchatka and Khabarovsk territories, as well as in the Irkutsk and Tomsk regions.
Voter turnout for constitutional amendments
On average, according to the Central Election Commission, 77.92% of the voters supported the constitutional amendments. The only region where the majority of voters – 55.94% – opposed, was the Nenets Autonomous Okrug (NAO). Explaining the protest vote in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Peskov said that “various factors” played a role there, including the authorities’ plans to merge the region with the Arkhangelsk region.
“Obviously, such factors were influenced by other factors that are important for the residents of the region. It cannot be ruled out that the theme of the association of subjects was also appropriately adopted in this district and influenced the result, ”Peskov said.
At the same time, he emphasized that in relation to the total number of voters in the country, the number of those who voted against the adoption of amendments to the NAO is “very, very small.”
“Although this is the position that these people have taken. And, of course, although they are in the absolute minority, they have the right to do so, that’s the essence of the vote, ”Peskov added.
The head of state’s press secretary called the voting itself a “triumphal referendum on confidence in the president” [Владимиру] To Putin. ”
