The Kremlin is aware of statements by Western politicians expressing concern that amending the Russian Constitution will allow President Vladimir Putin to remain in power until 2036, but they do not intend to take them into account. This was announced to reporters by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.
“Russia has remained and will remain primarily committed to its own sovereignty,” said Peskov (quoted by RIA Novosti).

A spokesman for the head of state noted that the amendments, including the one that nullifies Putin’s presidential terms, are in no way contrary to international law.
“Moreover, similar provisions are practiced in a number of states. I repeat once again, we are not ready for such so-called fears and will not take into account, ”Peskov concluded.
