The Los Angeles franchise agreed with the Washington Wizards the transfer of the point guard in exchange for Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and the 22nd selection in this day’s draft, according to ESPN.
The NBA market bomb didn’t come since the draft. The Los Angeles Lakers agreed with the Washington Wizards the transfer to the Angelina franchise of point guard Russell Westbrook. A stellar signing in exchange for Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and the 22nd pick in this day’s draft, according to ESPN.
The Wizards will also send second-round picks from 2024 and 2028 to the Lakers to complete the deal, with Westbrook joining LeBron James and Anthony Davis at Staples Center, giving the purple and gold franchise a nine-time point guard. All-Star and a desired ‘Big Three’ with which to recover the ring won in 2020.
Westbrook, who turns 33 in November, has averaged a triple-double in a season four times in his career, including last season. The Lakers will therefore join two of the five best players in triple-doubles: Westbrook has 184 and LeBron 99.
One area where he could help the Lakers is playmaking. The star point guard has led the NBA in that category in three of the past four seasons, with the one exception being the year he spent with James Harden on the Houston Rockets.
Westbrook, who is from Southern California and played at UCLA, has been motivated by the idea of returning to his roots in Los Angeles. Westbrook is owed $ 44.2 million in salary this season, so the Westbrook-LeBron-Davis trio would combine for $ 121 million in 2021-22.
